Pascagoula seeking public input on Hospital Road improvements

PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- The City of Pascagoula will hold a public meeting to solicit community input on its Hospital Road Improvements Project this weekend.
The meeting is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Pascagoula Senior Center, 1912 Live Oak Ave.
The public is encouraged to attend, city leaders said, as plans will be on display, and light refreshments will be served.
This project is in coordination with the Gulf Coast Regional Planning Commission and Brown, Mitchell and Alexander Consulting.
In January, the Pascagoula City Council chose a recreation-friendly, boulevard-style design concept for a major the major road project at the recommendation of Community Development Director Jen Dearman.
At that time, she told the council that the option would connect the Hilton Garden Inn project at the north end with the Belair Shopping Center area at the south end.
The improvements -- along a 1,550-foot stretch of Hospital Road between U.S. 90 and Old Mobile Highway -- are meant to be friendly to all forms of traffic, including cyclists and pedestrians.
The concept includes two traffic lanes divided by a landscaped median with turn breaks, and it also calls for bike lanes and sidewalks on each side, along with trees lining the sides of the roadway.
