Jackson County offices close for Thanksgiving holiday
PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- In observance of Thanksgiving, the majority of Jackson County offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 through the weekend.The following departments or services are exceptions or have additional schedule changes:
• Garbage and Recycling Services will not run on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28 but resumes on Friday, Nov. 29
All services will run a day behind. Service will resume Friday, Nov. 29
• The Landfill located at 10501 Seaman Road will be closed the entire holiday weekend Nov. 28-30.
Regular hours of operation are Monday - Saturday 7 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
• The County's Whispering Pines Golf Course located at 18412 Highway 613 in Hurley, will only be closed Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28.
The clubhouse and course are open regularly seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Wednesdays 9:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.) with a "first come, first play" policy.
• The Jackson County Animal Shelter located at 4400 Audubon Lane, Gautier, will be open Saturday, Nov. 30 for those looking for new family additions.
Regular hours are Monday - Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Although offices will be closed, residents can take care of official business through the County's website, www.co.jackson.ms.us. Citizens can pay their property taxes and purchase car tags on the tax collector's webpage. They can also apply for and check the status of building permits on the Planning Department's webpage.
There are also plenty of county recreational facilities that residents can enjoy throughout the long weekend. All of the County's 24 boat launches and 12 public parks will be open the entire holiday weekend. The County's lighted walking tracks, tennis courts, and basketball courts can be used until 10 p.m. County offices will reopen with their regular schedules on Monday, Dec. 2.
