Basketball recruiting: Moss Point's Devin Booker signs with Kentucky

After first saying he would wait until Friday, Moss Point basketball star Devin Booker signed his national letter of intent with Kentucky late Wednesday.
Booker made the announcement on Twitter, forgoing a signing ceremony at school. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard verbally committed to the Wildcats on Oct. 31.
Booker averaged 29.1 points per game as a junior at Moss Point, earning Gatorade Player of the Year honors for Mississippi. He played in the Under Armour Elite 24 game in New York in August, and has scored 33 and 39 points in the Tigers' first two games this season.
"Devin is a scoring machine," Kentucky coach John Calipari said. "At nearly 6-6, he can play three different positions. He's got great range, which should help us spread the floor a bit when he's playing. What I like most about him is his confidence."
Booker is part of an outstanding Kentucky signing class, which is ranked No. 1 nationally by Scout.com. His close friend, Illinois point guard Tyler Ulis, also signed with the Wildcats.
Booker is one of two Coast players to sign with four-year schools during the NCAA's early signing period, which runs through Nov. 20. St. Martin's Ed Simpson signed with Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday.
Moss Point hosts West Harrison on Tuesday.
