Jackson County school districts set schedules to make up for lost winter storm days

PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- School districts across Jackson County have started approving schedules to make up for the three instruction days lost during the winter storm.
Students in the Pascagoula School District will report to school on March 3 and 4, instead of having a Mardi Gras holiday. They will also report to school on May 26, which is Memorial Day.
May 26 will be a 60 percent day and will also be the last day of school for students before summer break, school leaders said.
Jackson County School District students will report to school on March 3, April 21 and May 23 to make up their time.
They will still get Fat Tuesday off as a holiday.
April 21, the Monday after Easter Sunday, was pulled from spring break. Spring break will still last a week and will run April 14-18, leaders said.
The Moss Point School District already had bad weather make-up days approved for Feb. 17 and March 5, spokeswoman Stephanie Packer said, so students will report to class on those days.
The board will consider adding March 3 to that list of make-up days at its meeting tonight, she said.
Ocean Springs school leaders have not yet decided on a make-up day schedule.
Students missed school last month during an atypical winter storm that iced over roads for several days across south Mississippi.
