Pascagoula's 'Downtown for the Holidays' slated for Dec. 6, parade set for Dec. 7
PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- Pascagoula will celebrate its 13th annual "Downtown for the Holidays" event Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., organizers said today.A Christmas parade is also set for Dec. 7 at 1 p.m.
As the sun sets on Dec. 6, Pascagoula's downtown will be transformed into Christmas with thousands of lights, carriage rides, live entertainment and a visit from Santa himself.
Downtown shops will be kicking off holiday hours and will be open throughout the event.
The 34th annual Christmas tree lighting, scheduled for 5 p.m., will kick-off the Downtown for the Holidays celebration and will be led by Mayor Jim Blevins.
Santa Claus will be in town at Merchants & Marine Bank's "Santa's Village" to hear those early gift wishes.
A number of vendors will be selling along Delmas Avenue, and items available will include fine art, pottery, jewelry, ornaments and more.
At the end of Delmas Avenue, Anchor Square Retail Village will be open and decorated for the holiday.
"Christmas is a magical time of year in Pascagoula, so you definitely don't want to miss 'Downtown for the Holidays'," said Rebecca Davis, Pascagoula Main Street Director. "This event gets bigger every year and is the perfect way to enjoy the holidays."
The holiday cheer continues with "Passport to Pascagoula," where patrons of downtown will be given a card that includes the names of local participating businesses.
As they visit each business, they will have their card stamped. Once the card is filled, they can return it to a collection box at the Jackson COunty Chamber of Commerce, Coast Clothing, Party Girls at Anchor Square or at the Jolly McCarty Historic Depot.
There will be a drawing, and the winner will receive a basket filled with a "Taste of Pascagoula."
Also, a Toys for Tots toy drive will be underway at the law firm of Heidelberg, Steinberger, Colmer & Burrow, P.A. There, new unwrapped gifts will be accepted for ages 12 and under, as well as monetary donations.
The Dec. 7 Christmas parade will begin at 1 p.m. and roll down Dupont Avenue, Pascagoula Street, Delmas Avenue, and Frederic Street.
