Pascagoula shipyard worker struck crossing Jerry St. Pé Highway
PASCAGOULA -- A Moss Point man was struck while walking on Jerry St. Pé Highway on Thursday, authorities said.Robert L. Turner, 28, had just received a temporary badge from the employment office at Huntington Ingalls when he was struck while crossing the highway to go back to the shipyard entry gates, Pascagoula police Lt. Chris Blythe said.
He was hit by a vehicle driven by a man who had just dropped his wife off at work at the shipyard, Blythe said. The accident was reported shortly after 6 a.m.
Turner was taken by Acadian Ambulance to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula where he underwent surgery for his injuries.
He remains in critical condition, hospital spokesman Richard Lucas said.
