Recreational Red Snapper Season to Open June 1

BILOXI, Miss. – The recreational fishing season for red snapper (Lutjanus
campechanus) will open in Mississippi territorial waters on June 1, 2013 at
12:01 a.m. with a two (2) fish bag limit and a sixteen (16) inch minimum size
limit. Currently the season is set to run thirty-four (34) days and scheduled to
close July 5, 2013 at 12:01 a.m. Several issues may impact this closing date and
the number of fishing days may decrease. Please reference
www.gulfcouncil.org for the most up to
date information available.
The opening of this season is issued under the authority of Section 49-15-15 (1)
(a) (2009), of the Mississippi Code.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing,
protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine
life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide
for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these
