PASCAGOULA -- A national cleanup, biking, kayaking, marsh tours, a petting zoo and nature presentations are planned for the Pascagoula River Festival on April 13.
The festival is designed to engage local families and nature tourists in learning about and enjoying the Pascagoula River basin's wildlife habitats.
Volunteers are encouraged to participate in the Great American Cleanup from 8 to 11 a.m. The event is the nation's largest organized annual cleanup, beautification and community-improvement program, according to the group Keep America Beautiful.
Helpers can sign up to adopt one of Pascagoula parks, or a neighborhood or street of their choice. Those interested in participating can register and get bags and gloves by contacting Scranton Nature Center at 938-6612 during business hours.
Also at 8 a.m., a free family-friendly bike ride along the Pascagoula Historic Bike Trail is open to all.
